  • 1 - Research the Role

    After initial research, consider learning more formally. We offer introductory Level 2 Certificates designed to build your knowledge. These courses demonstrate motivation and commitment to your own personal development to future employers.

    We also offer a challenging Level 3 Certificate course designed to demonstrate to employers that you have the ability to study and learn at the same, specific technical level as the Train Operators Training courses.

  • 2 - Eligibility

    You can only become a train driver in the UK by being employed by a UK Train Operator. There is no "easy way in". All our services are designed to give you the best chance of success during the recruitment process.


    To be awarded a train driving licence you must:


    Be employed by a Train Operating Company (TOC)


    Be 20 years of age when you start training. Minimum 21 for the licence.


    Completed at least nine years' education (primary and secondary)


    Successfully completed company basic training equivalent to at least level 3. A great way to demonstrate your ability to pass this it complete our Level 3 Certificate.


    Passed the required medical examination


    Passed the required occupational psychological fitness examination.


    Passed the required general professional competence examination. This is an assessment carried out by a train operator after you've completed initial training and necessary driving hours

  • 4 - Get Ready to Apply!

    Consider learning more about the process. This will ensure you can put forward the best application you can.


    Train driver vacancies are rare and there are thousands competing with you for very limited spaces.


    Everyone else will be delivering their best, don't leave your application to chance. Each position is contested by members of the military, emergency services, prison service, academics and other professionals. They all have similar experiences and qualifications - YOU NEEED TO STAND OUT.
